John Lynn
John Lynn was born in Australia in the mid 50’s and is a retired Queensland school teacher after completing 37 years’ service. He has worked in primary and high schools both in the classroom and in administration including contract work with State and Federal Governments. He has spent much of his time in “support” roles after completing post graduate studies in Special Education at Griffith University in 1991.
Being a keen musician, he has played piano and guitar in a number of bands over the last 45 years and operated a PA and light business through the 80’s and 90’s. His involvement within the community in and around Woodford Qld has had him run a number of open mic events. Recent activities include “jammit Woodford”, which he ran for almost six years and a blues open mic called “Blues Connection Woodford”, for two years. He was the president of the Woodford swimming club for two years and the Chairman of the Stony Creek Rural Fire Brigade for 13 years.
He speaks at events and small group meetings from the Gold Coast to Sunshine Coast including free information nights at various council libraries sharing fundamentals and tips for households on practical ways families can reduce their energy consumption.

Renewable Energy Technologies
After becoming interested in “alternative energies” in the late 80s and early 90s, he put together several “stand-alone solar systems” which lead him to undertake studies in Renewable Energy Technologies at Ithica TAFE in Brisbane in 1999. He and his wife purchased a 156 acre property near Woodford Queensland Australia in 1996 where he gained practical experience in building “stand alone systems” with 12volt, 24 volt and 48 volt systems and collecting and storing solar energy in systems ranging from 1.2 kWh to 42 kWh. He designed and owner built his family’s energy efficient Passive Solar Home on the property which scored 9+ on a BERS rating in 1999 (NatHERS rating recalibrated to a score out of 10 in 2003). The home supplied all of its own electricity from 2001 until 2012. He then installed an interactive system which exports surplus electricity into the grid paying him around $4000 per year without his household getting an electricity bill. From 2012 until 2028 when the arrangement he has with his energy supplier will need to be renegotiated, he will have saved $32 000 in electricity payments (statistics for a family his size and location) and will have been paid in excess of $64 000 for energy exported into the grid putting him approximately $96 000 better off than what he calls “the house next door”. The design of his family home has mother nature working to keep the inside ambient temperature close to 23 degrees all year.

Energy Efficient Home
His family home had house batteries, typically lasting 7 to 10 ten years, which functioned well into their 20th year. His family home is cool in the summer with the summer sun denied access to the long northern wall of the home whilst allowing the winter sun to flood through the windows. The home, where his three daughters were raised, has operated on 3 kWh to 8 kWh per day since its construction with little if any need to warm or cool the home.
He is involved with numerous families within the community who also have been living similar lifestyles for over 20 years that are now only recently starting to become popular.
In mid-2016 he began focusing on designing and producing a 9 Module online course called “Energy Efficiency 101” for Mums and Dads, ie. homeowners and renters, who want to become more energy efficient and discover how they can reduce their energy consumption and expenditure.
In mid-2017 John began active in supplying a serice to people seeking to purchase land, designing new homes or retrofitting existing buildings. He now speaks semi regularly at venues in South East Queensland including free information nights at council libraries where he introduces participants to practical energy efficiency habits including how they can statistically reduce their electricity bills by 10% regardless of whether they rent or own starting the minute they get home.
In late 2018 John extended his educational program to include Real Estate Agents and Real Estate Investors.

Family Home
John’s family lives on 63 hectares (156 acres) mostly untouched land located adjacent to 4200 hectares of forestry where a multitude of interesting animals can be found. The home’s design, the use of energy efficient appliances, the matching of energy sources to uses and the family’s energy consumption habits and profile, all add up to the homes reduced energy footprint.
